Inauguration Of Mint Museum
The new premises of the Museo della Zecca in Rome were inaugurated on Tuesday 25 October 2016 in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pier Carlo Padoan, and the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini.
The State Printing and Mint Institute has thus recovered and enhanced an artistic and historical heritage of immense beauty.
A “treasure chest of wonders” located inside the Poligrafico industrial complex, which from today shows its treasures to the public.
Over 20,000 works including coins, medals, punches, wax models and industrial machines of era, including the pontifical balance of Clement XII.
Hence, two hundred years of history and customs recounted by the Lira and the rich collection of wax models by Benedetto Pistrucci, the Roman engraver author of the model of the golden pound with St. George and the dragon, still minted by the British Royal Mint.
A treasure, this, remained piled up and abandoned for a long time in boxes filled with dust and which now goes to add to the collection that was only partially exhibited in the previous seat of the Museum, in via XX Settembre, at the Ministry of Economy and of Finance.
